The latest on Training
“When’s the Next Training Classs?”
“It’s a question I hear with increasing frequency ever since graduating 13 new trainees this Fall. It is gratifying to know how many people want to join our merry crew of volunteers, but frustrating not to be able to give a definitive answer.
“We WILL be doing a Spring 2013 class, but when is dependent on several factors. As you all should know by now we are working on funding and constructing the “Upper Deck” (second floor to land lubbers).
“That project is incumbent on several operations, the most important of which is financing. But there is also a Committee (surprise, surprise!) which is sorting through all of our ideas and desires to start coming up with a doable layout.
“I am very loath to train a new batch of volunteers only on the operation of the first floor, and am hoping we can get far enough along in Upper Deck plans that Pat Hart and I can completely revise the current training curriculum to include both floors.
“IF that happens we will have a much enlarged training program, but it will be designed to meet increased staffing needs for a two-floor operation. So it becomes a “domino” process; firm 2nd floor plans, revised curriculum, potential use dates and THEN training in advance of the use date.
“Soooo…if you are prepared to be patient with us, you can call me at 984-0822 to get your name on my growing list of those to be notified when we have a firm training schedule in place.
“Thanks for your interest…we’ll need you all when we start operating the Upper Deck!
