NAUTICA 2010, the annual, juried, marine contemporary art competition and exhibit held at the Ventura County Maritime Museum, will open on February 2nd and close on March 31, 2010.

The Artist’s Reception is scheduled for Saturday, February 27th, 4-6 pm.

The theme is art with a maritime subject: “anything up to and including the tide line—ships and boats, harbor scenes, seascapes and sea life.” Two and three dimensional artwork weighing less than 50 lbs were accepted this year.

NAUTICA 2010 Competition Winners NAUTICA 2010, the annual maritime contemporary art exhibit held at the Ventura County Maritime Museum, continues through March 31, 2010.

The prize winning works of art chosen by judge and photographer, Lis Schwitters, were announced at the opening reception and cash prizes presented.

First Prize awarded to “Zac Sunderland,” clay sculpture by Tim Hill, Camarillo

Second Prize awarded to “Morro Bay,” watercolor by Margy Gates, Oxnard

Third Prize awarded to “Dance of Light,” photograph by Kaarina Tienhaara, Ojai

Honorable Mention awarded to “Ship Shape,” watercolor by Don Fay, Oxnard

Honorable Mention awarded to “Sea Rocks,#4,” acrylic by Louisa Wallace Jacobs, Westlake Village

Honorable Mention awarded to “Cleopine #218 Clownfish,” steel/glass sculpture by Tesi Sanchez-Halpert, Moorpark.

The Ventura County Maritime Museum is open daily from 11-5 pm and is located at 2731 S. Victoria Avenue in Oxnard’s Fishermans Wharf .
